It appears Hasbro are not done with reshells. Or is this at the hands of an over zealous fan? Feast your eyes on A NEW Nerf Elite Rayven Stinger?
Thanks to reader Matush Khemry for emailing this over.
EDIT 9/9/2013: Speaking to Hasbro UK, they have confirmed that the UK will not receive the Elite Nerf Rayven Stinger. Look like it is yet another US exclusive? They can keep it honestly speaking!
The NEW Nerf Elite Rayven Stinger has popped up online at Amazon by a 3rd party seller - AR-DISCOUNT. Odd? Right? Normally Nerf do throw out the odd soft sell items to gauge the popularity before unleashing it to other territories (It would appear the Elite Pin Point Sight just wasn't going to be a hit outside Asia...so they didn't bother releasing it) but to my mind it's never been in the form of eBay first. How the seller got their mitts on this is unclear.
The price for this yellow monstrosity sits at $28.99 (WAS £39.99...!), and boasts up to Elite 75ft ranges. Packing a CS-12 BUT with 25 darts? It doesn't quite make sense as to why they've given that number of darts vs the clip size. The Elite darts seem to have had a makeover being dipped in the Nerf N-Strike Yellow shade and topped with black tips. Looks so weird right off the bat. Something, for me, is not adding up. Doing a Google search I found a listing on Sams Club - priced $19.98. The shell does not sport any of the Elite markings, so this is looking like the ORIGINAL N-Strike shell. Uhm what? It looks like they are doing a simple cost reduction run, without the Firefly tech clip.
On the box art, it mentions the blaster fires at the touch of a button. Many fans speculate that it might have an internal Firefly tech, but to this they believe it has the new Rapidstrike dart pusher. I can't imagine them doing this, and why with an existing blaster? Perhaps this is a new Elite Gear Up sub range? Do we even need it?
The product description also is a bit odd. You would have expected something more Nerf gung-ho or over the top?
The RAYVEN STINGER BLASTER lets you make your mark on any mission with motorized rapid-fire capability. Load the 12-dart clip and power up for blasting that happens as fast as you can pull the trigger."
At first glance I thought it might of been a crazy Stampede kit or something, but no. One thing for sure, is that it is a step back rather than forward in regards to the colour scheme. After a big identifier by Hasbro on why sales were poor for the Elite range being down to fans thinking there was no difference between N-Strike and Elite, I would have though they would be hot on this. That for me makes me doubt the legitimacy.
It's been suggested by some Nerfers as a photoshop, others suggest it is a screw up by Hasbro in getting the images mixed up. Lets not forget that they let the ECS-50 slip on the N-Strike Stampede, so that is a valid debunk right there.
|For Nerf sake! Stampede ECS-50 (dead)-tease|
Leak, photoshop or legit, it seems to be selling. From the time of my writing this post, 2 have flown out the door leaving 10 in stock. What IS certain that it makes no sense as a blaster.
Edit: thanks to OldNoob from BritNerf for this video link. It just really makes zero sense why they would release this when so many fans have zero idea why they need to move over to Elite...
So what do you folks think? Good, bad, ugly
or plain photoshop?
Also popping up is the new go-white Nerf Elite App Cradle
