Hasbro locks arms as Warner Bros. jump the gun over Dungeons and Dragons movie rights

Warner Bros. had picked up the rights, but maybe jumped the gun!
Hasbro say they are developing the film...

News broke yesterday that Warner Bros. had picked up the rights to a Dungeons & Dragons movie, but they may have spoken too soon. According to Deadline Hasbro is stepping up to claim that it has the rights and is already developing their own adaptation with league with Universal for Chris Morgan to direct - the guy behind the Fast and Furious series.

Hasbro may well have a claim because, as many a tabletop gaming geek knows, Hasbro bought D&D owner Wizards of the Coast in 1998 and, according to Hasbro spokesperson Wayne Charness, they have all the intellectual property rights.

Both studios are set to be a ways into development, so this one will probably go to the lawyers unless someone wants to blink (not meaning the teleportation spell).

  1. ooh, messy.

This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things (TM)

    1. As a longtime fan of tabletop battle games, I would just like to see a general awesome kickass moniker D&D fantasy movies. Too much to ask?

  2. Hi David! You took the words out of my mouth... can't they just pay them royalties?

  3. Just hope they come out with something beter than the 1st 2 D&D movies.
