Search for the UK's biggest Nerf fan!

You can check the original post of when I covered this back in December 2012 and find out more about the Quest store and it's facilities and plans.

To celebrate the launch of the UK’s first ever NERF Combat Arena at Quest, the new adventure and entertainment venue at Westfield’s Merry Hill shopping centre, the team is launching a competition to find the biggest NERF fan in the UK.

NERF has a massive following and has been around since the 1970’s. This is a great chance for the all those fans of the toy to come and be one of the first people to try out the Combat Arena, be it if they are new to Nerf or remember it from years ago. You can't experience this anywhere else in the UK so this really is the perfect opportunity to show off your NERF skills to your friends. We want as many entrants as possible, so make sure you spread the word." Mark Know, manager at Quest Merry Hill

To be in with a chance of winning a trip to the NERF Combat Arena with four of your friends and to be one of the first people to try out the arena on launch day, plus £50 worth of NERF goodies, please email Rowena Lee (rowena.lee@onlybeattie.com) with a 150 word explanation about why you are the biggest NERF fan in the UK. Please include all contact details.

To celebrate the launch of the NERF Combat Arena at Quest Merry Hill, a survey was conducted to expose the top five celebrities who people would most like to target in the brand new arena, which opens to the public on Saturday 6 April.

The results were:
Top five celebrities we would like to blast in the NERF Combat Arena:
  1. Justin Bieber
  2. Kim Kardashian
  3. Nick Grimshaw
  4. Taylor Swift
  5. Harry Styles

Despite Bieber’s efforts to woo the crowds at his recent concerts in London, Justin has failed to win public support and he tops the leader board scooping more than half (42 per cent) of the votes.  Likewise, after her constant social media updates it has left Kim Kardashian in the cold with Brits as the reality star has been voted the second most wanted star to NERF blast - securing 19 per cent of the poll.

When it comes to which action heroes us Brits would be most scared of meeting in the Combat Arena it was a tie between legendary action stars Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger. But it was overwhelmingly (91 per cent) revealed that British action star, Jason Statham, would be crowned official celebrity champion of the NERF Combat Arena.
Mark Knox, comments: “We thought it would be interesting to quiz the public on which celebs they’d most like to see in the NERF Combat Arena. There were some clear winners when it came to the celebs that people would love blast in the UK’s first ever NERF Arena. It seems that the bubble is bursting for our celebrity friends from across the pond!”

I took the time to get in touch and ask some questions I know fans (and myself!) will want to know, as promised I got a response to the questions:

MyLastDart: Is this an official Hasbro Nerf event?
CEO Paragon Entertainment:  Yes.  Paragon Entertainment that owns Quest has the Hasbro licence for Nerf as 'attractions' throughout the UK.  Our first Nerf attraction opened in November as a target range in Quest Merry Hill.  However the first Nerf Combat Arena is about to open and is a much bigger deal.  This is not an event, Nerf Target Range and Nerf Combat Arena at Quest Merry Hill are permanent attractions.
MyLastDart: When might we expect more Quest stores in the UK? Are there any plans to look at other territories around the world? Americas, Asia, Europe?
CEO Paragon Entertainment:  Soon.  Paragon Entertainments has recently licensed 3 new Nerf Arenas to operators in the UK.  In a couple of months there will be a total of 4 Arenas in the UK.  We are currently developing some new sites for ourselves and in discussion with operators who wish to work with us under licence.  Our plan is for 30 + sites to be operational in the UK within 18 months.  Americas, Asia, Europe… watch this space.

MyLastDart: What plans are there for Store vs Store tournaments or even instore leagues? Could we see National tournaments?
CEO Paragon Entertainment:  This is the plan!  When we get to a minimum scale of official Nerf Arena sites through our own ventures/working with other potential licensees we will create a National tournament.  Envisaged to start at the end of 2013.

To confirm, this event launches Friday 29th April at 09:30 at the Westfield Merryhill shopping centre in Birmingham, bring your friends and family for a truly awesome fun day out! Prices will be: £4.95 for children and concessions and £5.45 for adults.

As promised by Quest, we now have some pics of the new arena:

  1. I'm a bit confused as to what exactly was meant by "Watch this space" in reference to USA, Asia, and Europe. Because the way I read it, I'm not getting the same feeling that they have plans for those Countries to get play areas in the next 18 months.

    1. All being well in the UK, they will trial sites in those territories to test the water rather than commit fully and lose out big time
